We bid farewell to the Vice Chancellor and we acknowledge the contributions she has made to the institution. We extend our thanks and appreciation for her support of the decolonial project. Makwande!
As we bid farewell, we would like to share Prof Phakeng's remarks and questions at our launch of 'Pan-Africanism & Psychology in Decolonial Times, "...we at UCT believe that if we want to see change we've got to invest in making that work... what is it about the executive, the office of the vice chancellor that needs to be decolonised... I often [say that] the formerly oppressed and the oppressors are equally wounded. The wounds are different [...} they may need different therapies, but there are wounds everywhere... I hope it [the book] doesn't just get used for evangelism, but that it gets used for engagement... and openness...".
